Monica develops IoT technology for large cultural outdoor events

As part of our innovation area Smart Cities we have started one of the largest European projects on deployment of IoT solutions in large scale applications. Focus  of the Monica project is to deploy wearable IoT technologies together with the latest sound management technologies to improve security, sound disturbance and user experiences at large otu door events such as music concerts, sports games, street festivals and other outdoor shows. CNet is developing the monitoring tools for providing a common operational picture together with a set of different apps for visitors as well as security personnel.

Providing enjoyable and secure outdoor events have become a top priority for modern cities, but at the same time they need to have solutions for reducing noise and annoyance for the surroundings. This challenge will be solved by the Monica project.

IoT Enabling of the Lidingö Bridge

We have started rolling out an IoT solution for monitoring of the Lidingö Bridge. This bridge is a railway bridge connecting the island of Lidingö with the city of Stockholm. The bridge is old and needs careful monitoring to ensure the structural integrity of the bridge.

The IoT sensors report vibrations, tensions, temperature etc., which gathered and sent to a cloud solution. The data is reported using the OGC (Open Geospatial Consortium) format and an open API allows smart phone apps to be created to render the data and process it for advanced analytics

CNet delivers Energy Efficiency solution in Amazonas

The IMPRESS project had its final review in April. It took place in Brazil. The use case has been the famous opera house Teatro Amazonas in Manuas in Brazil. In the project CNet has developed deployment tools for installations of large scale IoT applications. Also a set of development tools, including an IoT Resource and Service Catalogue and an IoT event debugging tool have been developed. The project was carried out by a consortium of European and Brazilian partners.

CNet installs Smart Farming Solution in Finland

This week we are going  to the Finnish farm Maaninka to install a smart farming solution. The farm is located close to Kuopio in the northern Finland. As part of the  CLAFIS project we have used LinkSmart .net to IoT-enable different farming equipment such as feed mixer weight scales. Through the MODBUS and OPC protocols we are able to control the equipment from the high level interface provide by LinkSmart. This makes it possible for developers of HMI  (Human Machine Interfaces)  inside tractors and other farming machines to provide solutions that can optimizing the feeding of animals, harvesting and sowing.

CNet exhibits IoT Infrastructure Asset Management Solutions

We will participate and exhibit the results of our R&D project IoTBridge at the Eureka Innovation Week in Stockholm 26-27 April. Roads and bridges are critical infrastructures in a city. Repairs and maintenance work immediately effects the traffic situation. Manual inspections of road and bridge conditions are costly. These problems are tackled by the IoTBridge consortium in which CNet is a part. We are combining different types of sensors embedded into wireless sensor networks which exchange information utilising cloud technologies. Data on the use of bridges and status of various parts is analysed to optimise inspection intervals and maintenance to reduce the costs for upkeep and ensure safety. A first installation of the system is done at the new Årsta Bridge, a railway bridge in Stockholm. This is part of our innovation activitities targeting Smart Cities and Infrastructure Management.

New LinkSmart site

We have now launched an updated version of the LinkSmart site for IoT developers. It contains documentation, code examples, demos and tutorials. Several downloadable tools are available for IoT Service code generation, debugging and IoT device management.

LinkSmart consists of a set of IoT Generic Enablers that are used to implement software-defined gateways, a concept being innovated by CNet. LinkSmart IoT Enablers acts as a bridge between the digital world and the physical world, allowing applications and apps to talk to, control and observe objects in the physical world through a common software gateway. The Linksmart.net components are fully programmable and available as Open Source. LinkSmart .net is available for a number of IoT platforms and can be used with many cloud services.

CNet Presents at M2M Workshop on Smart Cities

CNet today participated and made a presentation at an international M2M for Smart Cities Workshop in Copenhagen. Sustainable urban development is recognised as a key challenge at a global level. The ‘Smart Cities’ model provides opportunities and challenges for cooperation on issues related to areas of energy, water, health, transport, environment, information and communication technologies.

During the workshop CNet presented the Almanac project and our work on how to integrate IoT Data and Business Data to achieve real business process improvements of the city operations. We are also researching and developing a federated storage architecture for big data processing and advanced resource and service catalogue functions to support semantic interoperability of heterogeneous resources, devices, and services.
