CNet joins OPC Foundation

We have been elected as a member of the OPC Foundation. OPC is the interoperability standard for secure and reliable exchange of data in the industrial automation space and in other industries. It is platform independent and ensures the seamless flow of information among devices from multiple vendors. The OPC Foundation is responsible for the development and maintenance of this standard.

The OPC standard is a series of specifications developed by industry vendors, end-users and software developers. These specifications define the interface between Clients and Servers, as well as Servers and Servers, including access to real-time data, monitoring of alarms and events, access to historical data and other applications. With the introduction of service-oriented architectures in manufacturing systems came new challenges in security and data modeling. The OPC Foundation developed the OPC UA (Unified Architecture) specifications to address these needs and at the same time provided a feature-rich technology open-platform architecture that was future-proof, scalable and extensible.

Today the acronym OPC stands for Open Platform Communications.

CNet selected for European Innovation Radar

The Innovation Radar platform builds on the information and data gathered by independent experts involved in reviewing ongoing projects funded by H2020. These experts also provided an independent view regarding the innovations in the projects and their market potential. CNet has been selected as one of the companies to be included in the Innovation Radar platform.

CNet starts new project on technical debt SDK4ED

Technical debt in embedded networked products like Internet of Things is becoming an increasingly complex issue since products often contains both software and hardware, technology is rapidly developing with new software versions released frequently. Our new project SDK4ED intends to tackle these issues by providing tools for automatic optimization of technical debt, energy efficiency, dependability and performance in IoT products.

This project is partially funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under grant agreement No 780572.

IoT for crisis management

Handling the crises faced by modern societies often requires the coordination of multiple types of stakeholders from different countries. One of the key requirements to manage crisis is to have access to situational awareness through ICT solutions. To act efficiently all involved stakeholders need to share a common operational picture. Together with a consortium of European emergency practioners, rescue operators, first responder organisations we are working in the Sayso project to define a new IoT based reference architecture for such system to be used in emergency situations involving many citizens.

GOEASY creates innovative services using the GALILEO GNSS system

The GOEASY project aims to enables a new generation of trusted and dependable mass-market Location Based Services and Applications. The project grouped to create the technical and business foundations required for a new generation of trusted and dependable mass-market Location-Based Services (LBS) and Applications for engaging, stimulating and rewarding citizens for more sustainable behaviours.
This will be realised by an open eco-system built upon unique Galileo features (such as increased trust and improved availability) and leveraging open standards and platforms enablers to federate with existing authentication and e-security services, the Internet of Things (IoT), Smart City and Collective Awareness Platforms (CAPs) and exploiting EGNSS features for increased trust and improved availability.

CNet one of finalists in Fortum AI Hackathon

There are four global megatrends that shape the energy sector: climate change and resource efficiency; urbanisation; new technologies and digitalisation; and active customers. These megatrends will bring profound changes not only to how energy is produced and sold to customers, but also to how it is consumed in our daily lives. Fortum is now looking for novel AI-assisted services for customers’ homes and have organised a hackathon challenge AI Comes Home. CNet has been selected as one of the finalists for this hackathon that will take place 7-8 December. We will participate with a intelligent digital assistant that combines both video and voice input to guide consumers in living a more sustainable life.

Monica develops IoT technology for large cultural outdoor events

As part of our innovation area Smart Cities we have started one of the largest European projects on deployment of IoT solutions in large scale applications. Focus  of the Monica project is to deploy wearable IoT technologies together with the latest sound management technologies to improve security, sound disturbance and user experiences at large otu door events such as music concerts, sports games, street festivals and other outdoor shows. CNet is developing the monitoring tools for providing a common operational picture together with a set of different apps for visitors as well as security personnel.

Providing enjoyable and secure outdoor events have become a top priority for modern cities, but at the same time they need to have solutions for reducing noise and annoyance for the surroundings. This challenge will be solved by the Monica project.

CNet delivers first IoT-based post-harvesting system

In cooperation with our customer Skandia Elevetor CNet has developed Grain Cloud, a smart agriculture app and cloud solution that quickly and easily gives an overview of all processes and devices in facilities for drying and storing grain. A main component in such facilities are grain elevators, which are used to transport grain into silos. An essential function is the protection of the grain from the elements and allowing that the grain is stored keeping it suitable for purchase through tracing quality and temperature.

Grain Cloud makes the harvesting more efficient. Calculating and keeping track of drying and transport times, while warning in case of a malfunction. It also facilitates planning and division of labour, enabling a more efficient harvest season and higher yields. Additionally, the app allows keeping track of the inventory, regardless of time and location. It also makes maintenance easier because it tracks the utilisation of all devices and provides reminders when it’s time for service.

CNet has successfully delivered and installed the first system running in several farms.
