MONICA monitors Hamburg Winterdom

The MONICA project demonstrates its pilot Common operational picture – COP on the “Hamburg DOM”. The largest fun fair in Northern Germany is held in front of Hamburg’s Cathedral for 30 days three times a year, in spring, summer and winter. The Winterdom takes place from the 9th of November to the 9th of December 2018. On an area of 160.000 qm² several hundred rides, snack shops, bakeries, taverns, shows and weekly fireworks expect over 2 million visitors.

This year the MONICA project set up a system to address crowd management. The system consists of mobile and fixed IoT-enabled devices deployed at the event area. IoT-enabled meaning that these have sensors and can wirelessly connect to the Internet and communicate and initiate actions. The information exchanges in the MONICA project is handled by a cloud-based platform with control systems that monitor the collected data and perform automated actions based on behaviour modelling. The platform also consists of components which analyse data and detect critical incidents, supporting operators in assessing situations and making decisions. CNet has developed the database for the Common Operational Picture and the visualisation tool to provide decision support to the event operators.

CNet presents Blockchain for supply chain management at IoT & Data Science 2018 in Vienna

Peter Rosengren presented our blockchain based solution for supply chain management and collaborative manufacturing at the IoT & Data Science 2018 conference in Vienna. The conference addressed the optimisation of automated business with data. As IoT and Big Data are currently connecting to the “Industrial Internet”, which uses sensors, applications and technologies to collect and analyse data from all possible sources, analysis results can be used to improve business processes, reduce costs, and unlock new revenue streams. In cooperation with our partners Atos and In-Jet we organised a workshop focused on the theme: “In the Wake of IoT – Digitalization of Everything from Supply Chain Management to Outdoor Rock Concerts”.

CNet finalist for the European Commission‘s Innovation Radar Prize 2018

CNet has been selected as one of 50 finalists for the European Commission‘s Innovation Radar Prize 2018 with our PICASO innovation: Federated Cloud Architecture designed for ehealth: Care Management as a Service. The Innovation Radar Prize awards high quality innovative excellence, emerging from the Horizon 2020 programme. The award distinguishes five categories with 10 finalists in each. CNet has been selected for the “Tech for Society” category, recognising technologies impacting society and citizens. The price committee examined several thousands of EU-funded innovations from across Europe, making it quite an achievement to get selected as one of the 50 finalists.

CNet was recognised for their solution within the PICASO project, “Care Management as a Service”. This solution enables care organisations to use cloud technology, experience benefits of scalability and software resource sharing without violating regulations regarding clinical data. The innovation is based on a software-to-data cloud approach. All software for care management and decision support is hosted in one public cloud while all clinical data always resides inside the care organisations. All access and use of clinical data are done in a secure and authorised way, without violating GDPR. This creates an innovation in healthcare making it possible to use cloud technology while taking the specific requirements regarding clinical data into account.

MONICA Hackathon aiming to enhance experience at the stadium

The second Hackathon of the MONICA project took place on 26th to 28th October 2018 in Leeds. Seven teams from Finland, Germany, Spain and the UK took part in the challenge for designing digital technologies that could help enhance sports fan engagement and experience at the stadium.

The winner Pauline O’Callaghan impressed the jury with a solution for augmented hearing that enables stadium visitors to control their auditory environment during games. Pauline O’Callaghan, a young electronic engineer from Berlin, won €5000 prize money with her winning solution ‘Hearability’.

The solution, an augmented hearing device for spectators with the mission of giving everyone control over their auditory environment, makes events safer and more inclusive to all. O’Callaghan presented several use cases including one that enables turning down the volume of a game when listening to what your friend is saying next to you and turning it up again when finished. The judges, including innovation and technical experts as well as stadium and project representatives, were impressed by the inclusivity aspect and the variety of possible use cases inside the stadium and elsewhere. As part of the prize, Pauline O’Callaghan will now receive six months of business support from MONICA to help her progress her winning prototype.

PICASO at Rheumatology Congress in Mannheim

CNet presented in Cooperation with the Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf and the University Clinic Düsseldorf and Fraunhofer the clinician and patient dashboard of PICASO at the 46^th DGRh – German Society for Rheumatology Congress on 19^th to 22^nd September 2018 in Mannheim.

Attending Rheumatologists could learn about the details of the PICASO solution and test the prototypes. The attending audience mostly appreciated the value of the applications to improve the integrated care of patients and the mobile solutions to monitor and provide a complete health status overview of the patient. As integrated care is still in its infancy, a lively exchange with clinicians regarding the usability and applicability of the solutions happened during the Congress. Issues discussed were suggestions for additional features and improvements, as well as challenges with increasing amounts of available patient information. IT-platforms like PICASO can serve as valuable clinical decision support to minimise the effort to asses all available information about a patient.

Grain Cloud awarded with Elmia Innovation award

Grain Cloud was in June nominated for the Elmia Lantbruk Innovation Award. The nominated product Grain Cloud, which has been developed by CNet together with our customer Skandia Elevator, is a smart farming app and cloud service that collects information from the grain management system. It shows, among other things, the transport systems and machines that are running, estimated drying times and keeps track of the inventory in several silos. The app sends alerts if there is a downtime in the drying process, machine failure and in need of service.

In September Grain Cloud was honored with the Elmia Silver award 2018 for its innovation. The Elmia Agricultural Innovation Award seeks to honor innovative agriculture and agricultural production technologies. The selected products receiving the award are considered to provide a contribution to the development of Swedish agriculture and inspiration for the continued development of the industry.

Checkwatt reaches 1.800 installations

With Sweden as a fast growing and dynamic market for photovoltaic installations, the numbers of PV installation and the production capacity steadily increases. Checkwatt as leading provider in Sweden for complete solutions in energy production and energy consumption for both private and corporate customers continues to increase its customer base and market share.

By combining electricity meters, electricity certificate meters and user-friendly visualization, our spin-off company Checkwatt helps its customers to keep track of the entire energy production chain and supports the certification of energy produced and fed into the grid.

Checkwatt is proud to announce 1.800 finished system installations based on the IoT gateway developed by CNet.

MyAircoach in the news

For people with asthma, their inhaler plays a central role in managing the condition. These simple drug delivery devices have been used for decades to deliver medication to the lungs. Regular treatment with inhaled controller medication helps to keep asthma under control and, for some patients, ‘rescue’ or relief medication can limit the impact of an exacerbation (or ‘asthma attack’). The myAirCoach consortium, where CNet is a member, has been working to extend the utility of inhalers by developing adaptors to make inhalers smarter to improve outcomes for patients. Companies, hospitals and universities – in collaboration with patients – have been working to improve inhalers so that we can get as much information as possible about how the patient uses their device and information about the state of the lungs and the immediate environment.

Checkwatt achieves 1.600 installations

Since 2007 the number and capacity of Photo Voltaic installations in Sweden has significantly increased. Declining prices of photovoltaic equipment, as well as the introduction of the direct capital subsidy system in 2006 and a revision in 2009, make photovoltaic installations competitive. The number of roof-mounted systems installed by private persons or companies built on self-consumption business models has steadily increased and reached a new record in 2017.
