R&D: Knowledge Bases for Learning METIS - Multimedia Interactive Environments for Distributed Teamwork Promotion in Schools - is an European R&D project where CNet is one of the consortia members. The aim of METIS is to create a cooperative, multimedia, multilingual educational resource centre for primary and secondary schools. IT-based solutions will be provided to promote pedagogic advances in tomorrow’s schools, allowing new paradigms of interaction between teachers, students and parents. A central component in METIS architecture is a distributed educational catalogue/repository for learning objects which in principle could be of any type and content. We will propose to build such an architecture using state-of-the-art XML-technology combined with standards for meta data management (RDF, DC, Learning Objects standards). The overall architecture is composed of a loosely coupled network of METIS sites.
![]() The METIS architecture is based on XML. Actors in METIS are students, teachers, parents and various types of content providers. (c) 2008 CNet, all rights reserved |
